Distillation is a process used widely in the laboratory or in wider working environments for separating or purifying liquids or liquid mixtures based on the different boiling points of individual components.
Distillation Applications:
• Separation and purification of miscible liquid mixtures in organic chemistry
• Drying of solid residues and/or solvent removal
• Fractional distillation of liquids from polymers and petroleum products
• Removal of particulates or other solid contaminants
• As part of a water purification system for production of distilled water for laboratory use
• Specialist steam distillation-based applications such as Kjeldahl analysis of nitrogen and proteins in food, beverage, or environmental samples
What Types of Distillation Equipment Are Available?
Conventional distillation apparatus, typically comprising individual, jointed borosilicate glassware components assembled by the user (depending upon the application), using appropriate clamps, stands, and supports. Most conventional distillation assemblies combine a round-bottomed distilling flask to contain and heat the liquid(s) that require purification, fitted with a stoppered or jointed neck to which is attached a downward-sloping, inclined side-arm for connection to a condensing unit to cool the heated vapors back down to their liquid state. Heating mantles are the preferred heat source for improved temperature control. These conventional distillation units are also available supplied complete and ready-assembled for added convenience and ease of use.
Specialized automated distillation equipment, notably units designed for the determination of volatile acidity and alcoholic strength by volume in wines, musts, and alcoholic beverages, and units designed for Kjeldahl nitrogen or protein determinations.

Heavy wall pressure vessels have an internal thread for use with PTFE bushings as pressure seals. The design allows hand tightening/loosening for easy access into the vessel. O-ring is positioned on the bushing above the thread for improved sealing. Supplied complete with vessel, PTFE bushing & Viton o-ring. Optional Perfluoro o-ring has the chemical resistance & service temperature range similar to Kalrez 4079. 1000mL Reaction Vessel, Jacketed, 100mm Schott O-Ring Flange, GL-14 Inlet/Outlet, CG-911-A-10 Drain Valve. Similar to CG1924, but with our CG911A 0-14mm sidearm valve. All valves are designed to seal flush with the bottom of the flask avoiding the dead space normally associated with stopcock drains. This feature permits total mixing & draining of the contents of the reactor. The CG510 is recommended for solution based reactions while the CG911A and CG511 are recommended for reactions containing solids. Reaction vessel is constructed with a flange having a groove formed in the sealing surface of the flange. Flange is also ground to permit a greased seal with any lids CG1940 through CG1946. Supplied complete with two polypropylene hose connections and two screw caps(Polypropylene hose connections with a Viton rubber seal for working temperatures up to max +110¿C.) Chemglass Life Sciences Sublimation Apparatus, 50mL, Complete
Sublimation Apparatus, 50mL, Complete. Two-piece sublimer consisting of an upper water cooled condenser and lower flat bottom flask. Sublimate is collected on the inner wall of the condenser. The two components are assembled by a grease-free o-ring seal which permits the components to be gently separated for maximum product recovery. When condenser is inverted, the top vacuum connection serves as a funnel for convenient product removal. Complete apparatus consists of a condenser, flask, Viton o-ring and CG-150 Stainless Steel clamp.

Distilling Receiver, 50mL, Dean-Stark, Modified, 24/40 Joint Size, 4mm PTFE Stopcock, Approx. 355mm Height x 240mm Width. This innovative and compact Dean-Stark receiver is designed for azeotropic distillations using solvents that are heavier than water. The solvent vapor travels through tube “A” to a condenser inserted in the top standard taper outer joint. Vapors are condensed and collected in the reservoir section. The layers separate and the heavier than water solvent overflows through tube “C” back into the distillation flask. The upper water layer is drained out intermittently using the 4mm PTFE stopcock “D”. Capacity of the lower reservoir is approx. 50mL.

Designed for use with small quantities where hold up between the flask and receiver must be kept to a minimum. The thermometer bulb and stem serve as column packing. Upper hose connections are for cooling lines while the lower connection is for vacuum. Available with Vigreux indentations to improve efficiency. NOTE: The 14/20 size accepts a 1” immersion 7/12 or 10/18 thermometer, while the 24/40 and 29/42 sizes accepts a 2” immersion, 10/30 thermometer.

Coil style reflux condenser with a large diameter jacket and coil, similar to CG-1213-L but with detachable hose connections. Connections are made of polypropylene and provide a safe and easy way of connecting and disconnecting flexible tubing to the condenser. Supplied complete with two GL open top screw caps and two bent polypropylene hose connections. Condensing area is the same as CG-1213-L.

Condenser, High Efficiency, 730mm, 45/50 Joint, 600mm Jacket Length. This unique design combines some of the best features for refluxing in a single condenser. Coolant, introduced into the upper hose connection, fills a large cold finger that is wrapped with coils. After the coolant travels through the coils, it enters the water jacket to maximize cooling surface along the vapor path. Angled take off joint is a standard taper 24/40, and the angled take off joint for the 45/50 size is a standard taper 29/42. Hose connections for the 24/40 size condenser are 10mm at the largest serration. Hose connections for the 45/50 size are 15mm at the largest serration.
